Tuchel warns: “We have everything to lose” – Will the next gala performance follow? Darmstadt vs. Bayern – preview and forecast GuardianMagazines

FC Bayern will play against bottom team Darmstadt on Saturday afternoon (3:30 p.m., Sky). After the massive win against Mainz 05 last week, the record champions want to keep the pressure on Leverkusen. Thomas Tuchel warns against underestimating the opponent.

In the Allianz Arena at home, they achieved a commanding 8-1 win against Rheinhessen and thus maintained a ten-point gap to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

The German record champions continue to lag behind in the championship race. Nine game days before the end of the season, they are still in second place in the table, while leaders Bayer Leverkusen are showing no signs of dropping any points. However, anything is still possible for the people of Munich. After a phase of weakness, the Reds have been in top form again in the last few weeks, and the next show of force is set to follow against the Darmstadt team.

Tuchel warns about Darmstadt game: “We have everything to lose”

At the press conference before the clash with the bottom of the table, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel warned against underestimating the Darmstadt team. “The starting position is clear, but we will not stumble. We have everything to lose, Darmstadt everything to gain. That’s the task, we’re not doing it for the first time. The team trained completely like this, which is also due to the fact that the competitive situation is increasing. I am convinced that we will go into the game with the right attitude,” said the 50-year-old.

Tuchel explained: “Darmstadt lost to Leipzig, but had a lot of opportunities. We will prepare it and demand that we approach it with the only right approach: when we put on the jersey, we have to give everything and the only goal is to win the game.”

Only the long-term injured are missing: Tuchel has almost everything he can draw on

Before the duel with SV, the Bayern coach gave insights into the planned starting lineup. Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Dier, who have played a role in Bavaria’s central defense in recent games, will start again.

“They win games, work well with each other and also with the full-backs and sixes. The communication between the two is very good. There is little reason to change at the moment, only if you see the quality of Dayot Upamecano and Min-Jae Kim. “But they have a good chance of starting again because they played very well recently,” said Tuchel, explaining this decision.

After many injury concerns during the season so far, the Bayern coach can gradually make full use of his potential again. Regarding the personnel situation, the 50-year-old said: “We definitely don’t have the injured ones: Kingsley Coman, Noussair Mazraoui, Bouna Sarr and Tarek Buchmann. As for the regular players, it actually only concerns Noussair and Kingsley. Against Mainz we had the situation for the first time this season where we had a full squad of licensed players. This is also why the quality of the game increases. We’re noticing that very clearly right now.”

Lieberknecht: “My boys know they have to outdo themselves”

Before the clash, Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht refrained from making a clear declaration of war against the German record champions: “It makes no sense to make big declarations of war. My boys are well prepared and know that they have to surpass themselves. I really liked our organization and security in Leipzig,” said the 50-year-old.

“The boys simply have to have more courage with the ball in order to get into better positional play. We hope for the moments against Bayern when we want to have our chance. It is precisely in these moments that we have to show efficiency,” he explained.

Lieberknecht gave the following update on the staff: “Marvin Mehlem, Matthias Bader, Fraser Hornby, Fabian Nürnberger and Clemens Riedel are out. Things are looking very good for Clemens. He has recovered well from his injury and is well ahead of schedule. The goal is for him to get back into team training soon. Matej Maglica was forced to sit out Leipzig with a calf problem but returned to training this week. Braydon Manu has now trained with the team for the second week. Fabian Holland is also an option again.”

Direct comparison

The statistics of the two teams in direct duels clearly speak for the German record champions. In nine meetings so far in the German upper house, the Darmstadt team has only managed a draw. This tie took place way back in 1978. Bayern are unbeaten in eight league duels against the Lilies.

The German record champions confidently won the last meeting between the two teams in the first half of the season. The Munich team won 8-0 against SV after a goalless 45 minutes.

Bayern need this mandatory win on Saturday. The Darmstadt team is five points behind in last place in the table, a full twelve points away from the saving bank, 15th place in the table. This season they have only managed two wins in the league, the last one coming against FC in October of last year Augsburg (2:1). So far this calendar year, the Darmstadt team has only been able to record three points.

Meanwhile, FC Bayern is currently working its way out of a slump in form. After only being able to get one win out of four Bundesliga games, the Reds played big in both the Bundesliga and Champions League last week and won twice confidently. If Bayern’s form continues, a confident victory on Saturday must be possible.
