Stuckey built her career while serving as an attorney and legislative assistant to Georgia Senator Mary Margaret Oliver. As Dekalb County’s Georgia House of Representatives representative from 1998 to 2013, Stuckey won her first successful political campaign. Stuckey, who served 14 years in the Georgia House of Representatives, said in 2012 that she would not run for re-election. Instead, she accepted a post as Executive Director of GreenLaw, an Atlanta-based legal resource center with an environmental focus.

The City of Atlanta’s Director of Sustainability and Chief Resilience Officer positions were given to Stuckey by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in 2015. Stuckey, now the third-generation CEO of the family firm, acquired Stuckey’s Corporation in late 2019 for $500,000 from her grandpa, who started the famed roadside stop in 1937, known for its pecan candy and kitschy trinkets.

She claimed that an emotional connection to the family brand and the desire to restore Stuckey’s to profitability and national prominence were the driving forces behind the purchase of the business. Only 13 of the original free-standing Stuckey’s stores still featured the distinctive slanted original teal roofs when she bought the business, along with about 65 licensed Stuckey’s Express store-within-a-store locations. The company was also experiencing financial difficulties.

Within six months, Stuckey restored Stuckey’s to profitability, thanks in part to a shift in focus from licensed Stuckey’s store locations to the company’s classic line of candies. She also expanded the brand into candy manufacturing by purchasing a pecan shelling and candy plant in Wrens, Georgia, in January 2021.
