Bassam began his training at Aspire Academy. In his home country, In Iraq, he joined Al-youth Rayyan’s academy and represented the club in various divisions. Rawi joined Al-Rayyan’s senior team in 2015 and made his professional debut the same year.

Bassam agreed to terms with the Al-Rayyan until the end of the 2017 season. For the 2016 season, he was loaned to Celta Vigo. However, Rawi was loaned to Eupen Fc in Belgium before the season ended, Rawi was loaned to Eupen Fc in Belgium.

The player signed a multi-year contract with Al-Duhail in late 2017. Since joining the club in 2017, Bassam has played in nearly a hundred games, winning the Qatar Star League two times, along with the Emir of Qatar Cup and the Qatar Cup in 2018.

Eligibility Controversy

After the semi-final match between Qatar and UAE in the 2019 Asian Cup, the UAE Football Association filed a complaint against Bassam stating that Al-Rawi wasn’t eligible to play for Qatar.

They filed an appeal based on Article 7 of the FIFA statutes, which states that a player can play for the nation if he has resided in the country continuously for five years after age 18. 

The complaint was made on 30th January 2019 and was dismissed by the AGC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee on 1st February 2019.
