Aliou Cisse made his senior career debut in 1994 with Lille in Ligue 1 and then joined Sedan in 1997. He made the greatest move in his career when he signed a deal with Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) in 1998. He played 43 games for the team in 2 years.

In 2001 Cisse was sent to Montpellier on a loan by PSG for a year. After playing for several French football clubs he then made a decision to move to English teams and joined Birmingham City in 2002. He later joined another English team, Portsmouth in 2004. Aliou Cisse played for Sedan and Nimes before retiring from his football career and becoming a manager.
